Investigation into cause of a sinkhole in Manchester

An investigation's underway to find out what caused this sinkhole to open up on a busy city centre road in Manchester.
Sinkholes like these are quite rare in the UK.
This one is nine metres long and twelve metres deep and is causing traffic chaos on the Mancunian Way in Manchester.
It's thought about two weeks worth of rain fell in about six hours in Manchester on Friday.
A sinkhole has appeared on a main road in Manchester after heavy rainfall. It's thought to be about nine metres long and 12 metres deep.
Experts say the hole may have been caused as the soft material, called sediment, under the road became weaker due to the really wet weather.
Luckily nobody was injured but people are being told the road - quite an important route in and out of the city - will stay closed until they're confident the area around it is stable.
It could take at least weeks for the road to open up again and experts will be using that time to understand exactly why it happened and to make sure it never occurs again.
