Afcon 2021: Senegal beat Egypt on penalties to win trophy

Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties to win their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations, after the final ended goalless following extra time.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty for Senegal in the shootout. He was also named player of the tournament.

Senegal's keeper Edouard Mendy - who also plays for Chelsea - was a hero after saving a penalty in the shootout.

Before the game, the final was built up as a battle between Liverpool strikers Mane, of Senegal, and Egypt captain Mohamed Salah (picture in red).

But it wasn't meant to be for Egypt as they missed out on a record-extending eighth Afcon trophy that would also have been a first for Salah.

Senegal are Africa Cup of Nations winners at last, after two previous final defeats.
