Scotland flooding: Heavy rain causes flooding across many parts of Scotland

Parts of Scotland have been hit by flooding following heavy rain since Friday. The Met Office - the UK's national weather service - said that some areas saw a month's worth of rain fall in just one day.

There was widespread flooding across the country with places such as Greenock, Dumbarton, Aberfoyle and Grangemouth all having roads, homes and businesses affected.

Drivers in Argyll and Bute were warned not to travel after Saturday's rain brought floods and landslips along the A83. Many other roads across the country were also blocked.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has more than 50 flood warnings in place including a severe flood warning for the Aviemore/Dalfaber area. Police Scotland say they are treating the weather event as a "major incident."

Trains were cancelled due to flooded railway tracks and there were no cross-border services running into or from Scotland. ScotRail warned that there would be further disruption on Sunday.

Many events such as football matches were cancelled including the Dundee Utd v Ross County game which was suspended due to the state of the pitch.

Experts have said that the bad weather looks like it will extend into Sunday with an amber warning in place for parts of central and north east Scotland until the afternoon.
