People will start to see the new banknotes in circulation by the end of the year

Here's your chance to get a peek at the banknotes you and your parents will be using to pay for things for the next few years.

They're the first notes to feature King Charles III, instead of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The money will be going on display as part of a new exhibition at the Bank of England Museum.

It'll be the first opportunity to see the polymer banknotes, which are due to be in our wallets and purses later this year.

Production of the new King Charles III £10 note

The King's portrait will be the only change to current designs of £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes, but the process isn't as simple as you might think.

For example, all machines using cash, such as supermarket self-service tills, will need to recognise the new image.

That's why, despite his Coronation in 2023, the notes will only be issued in the middle of this year - many months after 50p pieces featuring the King's image were put into use.
