In pictures: Holi celebrations from around the world

On 25 March, Hindu people from around the world celebrated Holi, the festival of love, colours and spring.

The two-day festival, which first began in India, also celebrates the Hindu god Krishna and the legend of Holika and Prahlad, which symbolises good overcoming evil.

During this Hindu festival, people throw coloured powders at each other, so that you no longer see the difference between origins, and between young and old.

These people are from the Netherlands, and are already covered in the colourful powder.

This person in Bangladesh has certainly been in the path of some powder throwing!

The coloured powder, which is called gulal, is thought to be a reference to the god Krishna throwing coloured water at people when he was a boy. This person in Mumbai, India is getting absolutely covered!

As well as coloured powder, people sometimes throw water balloons and squirt water at each other with water pistols.

People also give presents and eat special food as part of the celebrations.

And there is lots and lots of dancing!
