When there is a plane crash, it is often big news because it happens so rarely.

On Thursday, a plane travelling to London from India crashed.

Newsround has put together a guide if you're worried about this news.

An Air India passenger plane crashed shortly after take off from the Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The flight was bound for London Gatwick airport in the UK.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the crash was "devastating".

"I am being kept updated as the situation develops, and my thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time," he said.

King Charles said he and Queen Camilla were "desperately shocked" by what had happened.

"I would like to pay a particular tribute to the heroic efforts of the emergency services and all those providing help and support at this most heartbreaking and traumatic time," he said in a statement.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, said the situation was "heartbreaking beyond words".

At any time there are thousands of planes flying all over the world without any problems.

When a plane crashes, it makes big news because it happens so rarely.

When there is a plane crash anywhere in the world, there is a big investigation to find out what happens.

Governments and airlines then use the information from that investigation to make flying even safer.

That's why flying by plane is one of the safest ways to get anywhere.
