How to keep outdoor pets safe on New Year's Eve
If possible, bring your outdoor pets inside.
You can move animals that live in hutches, like guinea pigs or rabbits, to a garage or shed.
You can muffle loud bangs and explosions by putting a breathable blanket over the top of their hutch or cage.
And it's a great opportunity to give them some extra bedding so they have somewhere to hide if they do get scared.
If your pet has to stay outside, check on them as often as you can and make sure they have plenty of food and something to drink.
How to keep indoor pets safe on New Year's Eve
If you know there will be fireworks, keep your pets indoors before they start.
If you have an animal like a dog that needs a walk, try to walk them earlier in the day so they're not out when fireworks start.
Shut the windows and doors in your home so there's no chance of your pet running off if they're spooked by loud noises.
You can help hide fireworks from your pets by drawing the curtains or blinds, and playing some music that they're familiar with.
You can also play with them to keep them distracted, or put a video they like to watch on the TV.
Finally, build a den in an area where they feel safe. This could mean putting an extra blanket on their bed.
