You might not have heard of the Cape Town International Kite Festival, but once you've seen the pictures you probably won't forget it.

It's held each year in the second largest city in South Africa.

This is its 31st year and it's Africa's oldest kite festival, running since since 1994.

Each year kite enthusiasts gather to fly colourful kites, take part in different activities, to raise funds and awareness of mental health issues.

Not all the kites were giant-sized, but there were also lots of smaller ones for kids to help fly

Organised by Cape Mental Health, this year's theme, is '#CourageToFly," celebrating the bravery it takes to face challenges in life, particularly those linked to mental health.

Families, friends, and kite enthusiasts from across the city gathered to watch all sorts of colourful kites take to the skies.

Some were even made at home by children and families.
