Luke Cutts & John Lane set new British records

Two long-standing British indoor records fell within 48 hours of each other as pole vaulter Luke Cutts and multi-eventer John Lane set new bests.

Lane, 24, broke the 19-year-old British indoor men's heptathlon record at an international event in Sheffield.

He is the training partner of Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Sheffield pole vaulter Luke Cutts, 25, broke the 12-year-old British indoor record in Rouen, France, on Saturday with a 5.83m jump.

Cutts beat Nick Buckfield's old record by two centimetres to go second on the 2014 world indoor list, behind Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie.

His new mark is the highest cleared by a Briton either indoors or out, with Steve Lewis's outdoor best standing at 5.82m.

On Sunday, Lane helped Britain beat France, Czech Republic, Spain and the Netherlands at an indoor International Combined Events.

Lane, who like Ennis-Hill is also coached by Toni Minichiello, gained 5,982 points to break the British record.

Alex Kruger was the previous record holder with 5,978 points set at the 1995 World Indoor Championships in Barcelona.
