Galen Rupp: American qualifies for World Athletics Championships

American Galen Rupp has qualified to run in the 5,000m and the 10,000m at the 2015 World Athletics Championships.

Rupp, 29, who won a silver medal in the 10,000m at the London 2012 Olympics, has recently faced doping allegations, along with his coach Alberto Salazar.

Both Rupp and 56-year-old Salazar deny any wrongdoing.

In the US trials in Oregon, Rupp won the 10,000m qualifier and followed that by coming third in the 5,000m, behind winner Ryan Hill and Benjamin True.

It means Rupp will be competing in both distances at the World Championships, which will be held in Beijing, China and begin on 22 August.

A BBC Panorama investigation, in collaboration with US journalism organisation ProPublica, claims that Rupp was given the banned anabolic steroid testosterone in 2002, when he was 16 years old.

Salazar has written a 12,000-word open letter denying accusations he violated anti-doping rules and denying that Rupp has ever taken a banned substance. Rupp has also denied the Panorama and ProPublica claims.

And speaking after qualifying for the 5,000m event at the World Championships, Rupp said he would be happy to speak to the United States Anti-doping Agency about the allegations: "I've got nothing to hide. I'll do whatever I need to do to co-operate with them.

"We believe in clean sport so we're happy to do all that."
