Rajiv Ouseph wins London Grand Prix opener

Commonwealth silver medallist Rajiv Ouseph won his opening match at the inaugural London Grand Prix,, external beating Ukraine's Vitaly Konov 21-12 21-12 at London's Copper Box.

The 27-year-old six-time English champion had a first-round bye and will play Taiwan's Hsu Jui Ting next.

Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour is into the women's last 16 after a 21-11 21-14 win over Austria's Simone Prutsch.

Sarah Milne won her all-English first-round meeting with Chloe Birch.

Birch, the only English winner in Tuesday's qualifying rounds, took the first game before being overwhelmed 14-21 21-9 21-15 by Milne.

English national champion Sarah Walker also advanced courtesy of a walkover against American qualifier Beiwen Zhang.

Top-seeded Dane Jan O Jorgensen, who could meet Ouseph in the semi-finals, eased his way past Germany's Lukas Schmidt 21-10 21-11 to book his own spot in the third round.

The finals of both the women's and men's events will be played on Sunday 6 October.
