GB team relishing EuroBasket challenge

Great Britain's men beat Puerto Rico 61-55 to give Joe Prunty a win in his first game as coach as they build up to next month's EuroBasket in Slovenia.

The sides were tied 30-30 at the break at the Copper Box in Stratford, but GB pulled away in the final quarter.

Kieron Achara marked his 50th appearance with 13 points and 11 rebounds against the second-string Puerto Rico side.

Kyle Johnson added 11 points and Andrew Sullivan scored 10.

Carlos Emory led the way for Puerto Rico with a 12-point haul.

Prunty said: "It was important not just to get this win under our belts as individuals but as a unit.

"And with this unit, I like where we are, it's nowhere near where we need to be but I like where we are."

Achara added: "It was pleasing to get the win today.

"Right now, it's all about getting the results and understanding each other on the court. The mood has been great and we look to continue the momentum as we head to EuroBasket.

"It's a great feeling, from being a rookie on the team to being a veteran, it's a fantastic honour."

Britain have a further six warm-up matches before their first EuroBasket game against Israel on 4 September.
