Charlie Shreck leaves Nottinghamshire to join Kent

Shreck has taken 338 first-class wickets in 95 matches since his debut in 2003

Charlie Shreck has ended a nine-season association with Nottinghamshire and signed a two-year deal with Kent.

The 33-year-old Truro-born fast bowler has been with Notts since making his first-class debut in 2003.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I think he felt he is not playing enough cricket here because of our rotation policy."

Meanwhile, Kent batsman Sam Northeast, 21, has signed an extended contract with the Canterbury club.

Shreck had a year left on his contract at Trent Bridge and Newell added: "We said if anyone came along and offered him a two-year contract we would be comfortable with him leaving.

"His opportunities are getting more limited but he has still picked up over 30 wickets this year in nine games so it is a decent return.

"He's been fantastic, an outstanding bowler for us and player of the year twice. There have been a number of seasons where he made major contributions."

Shreck has already played for Kent this season, having joined the squad earlier in the campaign as a loan signing for their County Championship match against Essex.

Kent director of cricket Paul Farbrace said: "Charlie will be a welcome addition to our bowling unit.

"He is an experienced and knowledgeable bowler, who will bring a lot for our young bowlers and we look forward to welcoming him back to the squad."

Of Northeast's new deal, the details of which have not been revealed, Farbrace added: "Sam made good progress in the County Championship last year, and this year he has excelled in the one-day game.

"Sam has determination and works hard and I am delighted that he will be staying. I hope Sam stays for a number of years in order to realise his potential here at Kent."
