County Championship Division Two, Bristol

Gloucestershire 220 & 311 beat Northants 100 & 224 by 207 runs

Gloucestershire 20pts, Northants 3pts

Gloucestershire climbed off the bottom of Division Two with a 207-run three-day win against Northants at Bristol.

Young seamer Liam Norwell took 5-51, for a match haul of 8-74, as Northants were bowled out for 224.

After Gloucestershire had added just 25 runs to their overnight score to be bowled out for 224, that set Northants an unlikely victory target of 432.

But, despite half-centuries from skipper Andrew Hall (56) and David Sales (55), the visitors fell short.

Hall had earlier taken three of the last four Gloucestershire wickets to fall, all of them clean bowled (the final two in successive balls), to finish with 5-50.

Gloucestershire took 20 points from their third Championship win of the season and have one game left (against Leicestershire at Grace Road next week) to further improve their position, while Northants had to settle for just three from their final fixture.

Norwell took six wickets in an innings on his debut against Derbyshire at the start of last season, only to be then plagued by back trouble.

But, having followed Monday's 6-52 in the CB 40 game against Leicestershire at Grace Road, he has ended the season bang in form.
