A tight bowling performance saw Surrey successfully defend 147-9 and beat Middlesex by 15 runs at The Oval.
Earlier, opener Jason Roy's 52 from 33 balls provided the platform for a big score but a collapse to 88-6 left them needing a calm 27 not out from Zander de Bruyn to reach a competitive total.
Middlesex struggled in reply, Neil Dexter's 40 the only notable score.
When he was run out in the 19th over, realistic hopes of victory disappeared and the visitors limped to 132-8.
