Mark Pettini hit an unbeaten 95 from 54 balls to give Essex an eight-wicket T20 Blast victory over Middlesex at Lord's.
Batting first, the hosts made 180-5, with Dawid Malan (86 not out) and Eoin Morgan (77) making the vast majority of their total.
In reply, England captain Alastair Cook made 22 in a stand of 81 with Pettini.
Once Cook fell, Jesse Ryder (15) and Ravi Bopara (45 not out) provided able support for Pettini as Essex went on to win with seven balls remaining.
