Close, day two: Hampshire 388 v Derbyshire 166-7

Hampshire 4 pts, Derbyshire 2 pts

Spinner Danny Briggs took four Derbyshire wickets as leaders Hampshire took control on day two.

Resuming on 332-7, Hampshire's Michael Bates reached a half-century before being caught at deep mid-wicket by Paul Borrington off Tim Groenewald (3-91).

The home side were all out for 388, but Derbyshire's response began poorly as Briggs (4-29) removed Borrington.

Stephen Moore (53) provided some resistance for the away side who ended the day 166-7, still trailing by 222.

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James:

"Hampshire have already put themselves in a position where they would expect to claim their fourth win of the season.

"Derbyshire are still 73 runs away from avoiding the follow-on, although coach Dale Benkenstein said he was not sure at this stage whether he would enforce it.

"Spinner Danny Briggs got one or two balls to bounce awkwardly from a length and the visitors will be wary of receiving more of the same on day three."
