Lancashire Lightning 187-3 (20ovs) beat Northants Steelbacks 134 (18.5ovs) by 53 runs |
A thrilling 22-ball half-century from Jos Buttler earned Lancashire a 53-run win over Northants in the T20 Blast.
Lancashire's Ashwell Prince (43) and Karl Brown (46) put on 90 for the second wicket, before the pair fell in consecutive balls to James Middlebrook.
Buttler's 58 not out from 26 balls pushed the hosts to 187-3.
Northants slipped to 3-2 in reply and lost four wickets in six balls late on as they were dismissed for 134, well short of an imposing victory target.
Pakistan pace bowler Junaid Khan (3-16) impressed again with the ball for the hosts, his first over being the wicket-maiden that saw Richard Levi run out and David Willey clean bowled by a yorker in successive deliveries.
Arron Lilley (2-28) checked Northants' progress by dismissing captain David Sales (25) and Rob Keogh (28), before Junaid returned late in the innings to settle the contest.
Lancashire are now level on points with Worcestershire at the top of the North Group, while defending champions Northants remain in danger of failing to qualify for the last eight.
