Notts sign James Franklin as Peter Siddle recalled by Australia

New Zealand Test, one-day and T20 international James Franklin has extensive domestic experience in England, while Australia's Peter Siddle is recalled from his first spell in county cricket.

Nottinghamshire have signed New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin after Australia's decision to call pace bowler Peter Siddle home.

Injuries to Michael Lumb, Andy Carter and Siddles's impending exit prompted Notts to bring in 33-year-old Franklin.

He will be available for seven of their remaining T20 Blast group games.

Siddle, who was signed for the duration of the Championship and One-Day Cup campaigns, will instead depart after next month's game against Lancashire.

The 29-year-old is Nottinghamshire's leading wicket-taker in the Championship so far this season with 24 victims.

"It's a reality of signing centrally-contracted players that their national boards have control of their availability and we appreciate the reasons behind this decision," Notts director of cricket Mick Newell told the club website.

"I'd like to thank Peter for his contribution so far this season and have no doubt that he will continue to perform in the remaining time he has as a Nottinghamshire player."

Franklin, who has played 31 Tests, 110 one-day and 38 T20 internationals for New Zealand, will also feature during the opening matches of the Outlaws' One-Day Cup campaign.

Newell moved for the former Essex, Glamorgan and Gloucestershire man after consulting all-rounder Andre Adams and former Notts and New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming.

"He'll bat in the lower middle order for us, but he has batted much higher in T20 cricket around the world," said Newell.

"A player like James gives us lots of options as he can play as one of our three main quick bowlers or take an all-rounder spot, so he's not directly threatening the selection of any particular individual."
