Devon cricket boss says Trophy win is better than three-day title

Devon have made eight Minor Counties one-day finals

The head of Devon cricket says victory in the Minor Counties Trophy means more than winning the three-day title.

Devon beat Oxfordshire by seven runs on Wednesday to take their first one-day title since 2008.

"The one-day competition is probably of a higher overall standard at the moment than the three-day competition," Devon Cricket chief executive Neil Gamble told BBC Radio Devon.

"It means an awful lot, we've had a good season overall."

The victory was Devon's sixth in the event, bringing them level with Norfolk for the most wins in the competition's history.

Gamble's thoughts were echoed by director of cricket Keith Donohue.

"It's a culmination of a lot of hard work this season," he said.

"We've played a lot of good cricket and we feel we've earned it and deserve it."

"It finishes off our season beautifully," Donohue added.
