West Indies v Australia: Tourists sweep series with Jamaica win

Australia warmed up for their defence of the Ashes in commanding style as they thumped West Indies by 277 runs in the second Test in Jamaica to clinch the series 2-0.

Chasing 392, West Indies were skittled for 114 as Mitchell Starc took 3-34.

Josh Hazlewood added two wickets to his first innings 5-38, while Steve Smith hit 199 and 54 in the match.

The match was Australia's last international fixture before the first Ashes Test begins in Cardiff on 8 July.

West Indies began day four on 16-2 after losing both openers for ducks, and never looked like mounting an improbable fightback.

Starc bowled Shane Dowrich for 4, before Hazlewood, the series' outstanding bowler with 12 wickets an average of 8.83, removed Darren Bravo (11) and Jermaine Blackwood (0) in quick succession to leave the hosts floundering on 33-5.

A battling partnership of 49 between Denesh Ramdin (29) and Veerasammy Permaul (23 not out) briefly lifted West Indies' spirits, but once Mitchell Johnson removed Ramdin they quickly subsided to 114 all out.

Australia won the first Test in Dominica by nine wickets, and their comfortable series win contrasts favourably with England, who could only draw their three-match series in the West Indies 1-1.

Michael Clarke's side were without rested bowler Ryan Harris and opener Chris Rogers, who missed both Tests with concussion - both players who might be expected to come into the Ashes team in Cardiff.
