Namibia won by nine wickets

Opener Gerrie Snyman smashed 82 from just 43 balls to steer Namibia to a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Jersey at the World T20 Qualifiers.

Teenager Jonty Jenner had earlier hit 12 boundaries on his way to 90 not out as Jersey posted a total of 161-4.

But big-hitting Snyman struck five sixes in an opening stand of 121 with Stephen Baard, who made an unbeaten 61.

They won with 3.3 overs to spare, leaving Jersey with only a slim chance of making the knockout stage.

They went into the game lying sixth in Group A after back-to-back losses, and have to finish in the top four to progress in the competition.

Jenner's knock was the second time he has top-scored for Jersey in this tournament

The Channel Islanders lost the toss and lost openers Ed Farley and Peter Gough (20) in the first four overs after being put in to bat.

But 17-year-old Sussex academy batsman Jenner produced a classy innings, hitting four sixes to help his team to a respectable total, and he was well supported towards the end by all-rounder Nat Watkins, who made 27 from 24 balls.

Namibia were kept in check at the start of their reply with Anthony Kay and Watkins sending down tight opening overs.

However, Snyman grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, thumping the ball to all corners of the ground as Namibia raced to 80-0 from seven overs, and they never looked back.

Kay eventually got the breakthrough, with Snyman caught by Jenner in the deep, but by then Namibia were already well on the way towards their target.

"Scoring runs, but then coming out on the losing side, it takes the tarnish off it," Jenner told BBC Channel Islands.

"We've been slightly outplayed today and it's been a tough day for us, but we'll bounce back.

"Probably 180 or 190 would've been a better score on that track, but we didn't bat too badly and then when a guy like that (Snyman) gets going against you it's really hard to stop."

The qualifying tournament, jointly hosted by Scotland and Ireland, is the most high-profile Jersey have taken part in. They face Nepal and hosts Ireland at the weekend in their final group matches.
