Ashes 2015: Shaun Marsh & David Warner hit tons for Australia

Shaun Marsh staked his claim for a spot in Australia's team for the third Ashes Test with an unbeaten century in his side's 413-9 against Derbyshire.

The 32-year-old could replace Chris Rogers if the opener fails to recover from the dizziness he suffered at Lord's after a blow to the helmet.

Marsh hit 101 before retiring out, as did David Warner who scored at almost a run a ball in a scintillating knock.

Shane Watson marked his return with 61 off 45 balls, while Brad Haddin hit 32.

Both Haddin, who missed the second Test for personal reasons, and fellow wicketkeeper Peter Nevill were named in the tourists' team and the two men will share duties with the gloves.

Mitchell Marsh, who replaced Watson at Lord's, hit 53 as the Australians racked up the runs - scoring at 4.58 an over over the course of the day.

The only real blemish was the failure of skipper Michael Clarke to score any runs, as he became one of three first-class victims for 19-year-old debutant Will Davis.

Clarke never looked comfortable and edged the lively Davis to the slips.

Australia's team at Derby also included Pat Cummins - the injury-prone fast bowler appearing in his first-class match in two years.

Shaun Marsh's knock was particularly timely after Cricket Australia said that, following examination by a London-based specialist, Rogers was suffering a balance problem in the inner ear.

The third Test of the Ashes series, which is level at 1-1, starts in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Australia, meanwhile, have given their fast bowlers some time off to recover for Edgbaston.

Mitchell Starc used his time away from the squad to watch his fiancee Alyssa Healy in action for Australia in the Women's Ashes - the Southern Stars beating the hosts by 63 runs at Bristol.

"It's been good for a few of us to have a week off, the quicks anyway, to refresh the legs," said Starc.

Speaking to Test Match Special, Starc also believes England will have second thoughts about their pitch preparation after they were blown away by Mitchell Johnson at Lord's last week.

"It's nice when England are dishing out slow, low wickets that Mitch can still cause havoc," said Starc. "England don't know what to prepare now. It's good for us to have Mitch firing - he loves playing against England."
