QPR's Adel Taarabt admits to Paris Saint-Germain talks

QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt has confirmed he is in talks with French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22-year-old Moroccan was a key player in the Londoners' Championship win last season, leading to speculation linking him to several European clubs.

Taarabt told BBC Sport: "We're talking with Paris Saint-Germain, but nothing is done.

"We're very close, but if no deal is reached then I will play for QPR in the Premier League."

Taarabt began his playing career at Lens in 2005 before then director of football at Tottenham, Damien Comolli, brought him to White Hart Lane in 2007.

However, the Moroccan failed to break into the first team and moved to QPR on loan in July 2009.

After quickly establishing himself in Neil Warnock's team, Taarabt signed a permanent deal in August 2010.

He played a key role in QPR's successful promotion to the Premier League and was named Football League player of the year in March.

If a deal goes through, it is understood that Tottenham would receive 35% of the transfer fee.

Warnock, who has been in charge at Loftus Road since March 2010, said he hoped a deal would fall through.

"Adel wins games for you. He would set the Premier League on fire," he told Sky Sports News.

"I am hoping things break down if I'm honest, but I think if they come up with the money then I am sure he will be on his bike.

"There is nobody like Adel Taarabt but you've just got to move on. It's hard work to get players in anyhow.

"I don't think I'll be getting any of the money, I think we have just got to look for Bosmans and look for shrewd acquisitions, loan players etc.

"[We've got to] try and do it on the smallest transfer fee outlet there's ever been.

"We'll be trying to survive on that and that will be another achievement."

Earlier this month PSG appointed former Inter Milan coach Leonardo, 41, as general manager.

The ex-Brazilian international's appointment followed Qatar Sports Investments, established in 2005 by son of the Emir and heir to the Qatari throne, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, buying a 70% stake in PSG.

"I really like the project. It's a massive club which hasn't won Ligue 1 since 1994 and they want to win the Champions League," said Leonardo.

PSG finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season with coach Antoine Kombouare guiding the team to their highest finish since 2004.

However, the Parisian club finished four points short of qualifying for the Champions League and were also beaten by double-winners Lille in the French Cup final.

PSG have already signed striker Kevin Gameiro from Lorient and goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez from Rennes.
