Clinton Morrison no longer primary Swindon Town target

Swindon boss Paolo di Canio admits to interest in signing Clinton Morrison but says that the Sheffield Wednesday striker is no longer a primary target.

Reports in the Sheffield Star suggested that Morrison, 32, had turned down the offer of a loan deal at the County Ground earlier this week.

"To be honest, I didn't know that Morrison had said no," Di Canio revealed to BBC Wiltshire.

"But that's not important as our target is a different player now."

The former Crystal Palace, Birmingham City, Coventry City and Republic of Ireland international joined the Owls in 2010 and has since made 56 appearances, scoring 13 goals - to take his career tally to 164.

Swindon have been searching for a new striker since the acrimonious departure of Leon Clarke, who has joined Chesterfield on a three-month loan.

"There were a few options, not only him," added Di Canio.

"Morrison is a good player. He has good experience but he's a bit smaller and not exactly the type of player that I want.

"We need a player. We are talking to four or five strikers, of different sizes, ages and experience. We want to know if they are interested in coming because, if they are not then, we are finished."

Meanwhile, midfielder Matt Clark has joined Oxford City on a one-month loan deal.
