Leicester City appoint Hull City's Nigel Pearson as boss

Pearson has re-joined the Foxes as they target the Premier League

Leicester City have appointed Hull boss Nigel Pearson as their new manager.

Pearson, 47, will stay with the Foxes until the end of the 2013-14 season and is joined by assistant managers Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh.

Pearson won the League One title in a previous spell at Leicester between 2008 and 2010, while Nick Barmby replaces him as caretaker boss at Hull.

"Craig, Steve and I are all extremely excited to be re-joining Leicester City," said Pearson.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough defender replaces Sven-Goran Eriksson, who left the King Power Stadium in October, as the club's owners aim to secure a place in the Premier League.

The Foxes are 12th in the Championship table following a summer of heavy spending.

Pearson resigned as Leicester boss in June 2010 to take over at Hull and guided the Tigers to 11th place in the Championship in his first season at the helm.

Before that, he had two successful seasons in charge of the Foxes, winning the League One title in 2009 and taking the club to the Championship play-offs the following season.

Pearson has also previously managed Carlisle and Southampton, as well as having caretaker spells in charge of West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle United and England Under-21s.

Leicester City vice-chairman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn told the club website: "We are very pleased to have secured the services of Nigel, Craig and Steve and we are sure that they are the men to lead this club forward.

"Nigel is very well respected within the game and he and his team have the knowledge of this division and the ability to motivate the players, staff and supporters.

"They achieved a great deal during their last spell at the club, rescuing Leicester City from its lowest position and coming so close to a place in the Premier League.

"We are sure that this time around, with everyone's support and endeavour, they can take us one step further."

Former England midfielder Barmby, 37, joined Hull in 2004 after spells with Tottenham, Middlesbrough, Everton, Liverpool and Leeds.

He has been serving as a player-coach at the KC Stadium but now takes on the role of caretaker manager for the forseeable future.

Stuart Watkiss takes on the role of first-team coach, Seamus McDonagh becomes goalkeeping coach, with Darren Robinson joining the staff from Nottingham Forest.

A Hull statement said that Barmby will also be joined by a newly appointed assistant manager.
