Tony Vance 'disappointed' over 2013 Island Games decision

Guernsey football manager Tony Vance is disappointed that a team will not be sent to the 2013 Island Games.

The cost of sending athletes to Bermuda means a number of sports have decided not to take part.

Vance led Guernsey to the final of this year's Games in the Isle of Wight before losing to the hosts.

"It's disappointing because the tournament is just an incredible experience for people involved in it," Vance told BBC Guernsey.

"It is a lot of money and I appreciate that."

After the Games Vance, who also manages Combined Counties League side Guernsey FC, signed up the entire silver medal-winning squad to play in the English league.

But he believes it would have been tough to ask his squad to have played in a summer tournament after a full English football season.

"I would like to have gone," he said.

"But with the Guernsey FC players, who I would guess would predominantly form most of the Island Games squad, the commitments they're going to have to give at the moment, plus the season having just finished and then having to train for six or seven weeks to go the competition, would be a big ask."
