Gillingham defender Garry Richards will miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg against Barnet.

Richards was stretchered off after colliding with Bees' striker Izale McLeod in the 13th minute of Gillingham's 3-1 win at Priestfield.

"I have a spiral fracture of the fibula, which is a double fracture of the bone," he said via twitter., external

"[I] am off to see a specialist the afternoon....to see if an op is needed #FingersCrossed."

Manager Andy Hessenthaler said he received assurances from McLeod at half-time that the foul on Richards was unintentional.

"I had words with the player walking down the tunnel at half-time and he said it was an accident," Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent.

"It's probably very inconclusive on the DVD but only he will know whether he did it on purpose or not.

"My thoughts are with Garry at the moment."
