Burton Albion captain John McGrath has been ruled out for the season and may miss the start of the next campaign.
The 32-year-old midfielder tore a ligament in his foot against Swindon Town last month and a specialist has said that he needs surgery and could be out for six months.
The club are seeking a second opinion but McGrath expects it to be bad news.
"It's deflating," he told BBC Radio Derby., external "There was no malice. It was a 50-50 tackle and I came off worse."
