Middlesbrough have completed a deal to sign forward Mustapha Carayol from Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, who scored four goals in 30 appearances last season, has signed a three-year deal.

"I'm delighted that he's agreed to sign for us as there was competition for him from within the Championship," said Boro boss Tony Mowbray.

"I see him as young, exciting player who can give us a different dimension and option."

Mowbray added: "I'm looking forward to seeing him perform for us."

Carayol made his professional debut at MK Dons, and played for Crawley, Torquay, Kettering and Lincoln before his arrival at the Memorial Ground in June 2011.

"He's played his entire career so far at a lower level but I see the potential for him to be an exciting addition to our squad," Mowbray continued.

"I'm sure he will excite the fans and be a player they can enjoy watching."

Rovers boss Mark McGhee told BBC Radio Bristol: "It's a great move for Muzzy.

"I've been there and I know Tony Mowbray, and the type of football he wants to play will suit Muzzy.

"He'll have a great time. He did well for me and his attitude was first class."
