Shrewsbury Town: Injured Darren Jones to miss rest of season

Shrewsbury Town's defensive worries have been further heightened by the loss of centre-half Darren Jones for the rest of the season.

The summer signing from Aldershot suffered a dislocated shoulder in the 2-2 draw at Carlisle on Good Friday.

This latest Town injury follows the loss of on-loan defenders Cameron Gayle (hamstring) and Rob Edwards (thigh).

The 29-year-old Welshman must now await the result of a scan to determine just how long he will be sidelined.

But manager Graham Turner has said that in a worst-case scenario, Jones could face a six-month absence, which would mean him missing the start of next season.

"We're still waiting for the scan results," Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"He's certainly written off for the rest of the season and it could be a lot longer than that if he requires surgery.

"It's anywhere between six weeks and six months and obviously we hope he's fit for the start of next season, but it's touch and go at the moment."

On the plus side, fellow defender Jermaine Grandison could be back in the Town squad for Saturday's trip to Yeovil after missing 12 matches with a hip injury.

And Town have also been bolstered by the return of West Bromwich Albion full-back James Hurst, who started both games over Easter as Graham Turner's men picked up a timely four points out of six from their two matches.

After drawing at Carlisle, Monday's 3-0 home win over Crawley lifted them seven points clear of the relegation zone with just five matches left.
