Ben Foster: West Brom goalkeeper faces anxious wait after foot injury

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the England international "felt something pop" in his foot.

Foster, 30, produced a fine performance in the Baggies' 0-0 draw at Everton, before limping off after 78 minutes.

Albion boss Steve Clarke said: "It's obviously serious as he had to come off during the game and Ben is not the type of person to come off unless he has to.

"He said he felt something pop in his foot and said he was in a lot of pain."

Clarke added: "Until the medics look at it, it's only conjecture as to what the problem is."

With England manager Roy Hodgson watching at Goodison Park, Foster, who has played for the national side six times and was on the bench for the recent friendly against Scotland, was in fine form.

He twice denied Steven Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas, also stopped a shot from Seamus Coleman and produced an excellent double save to thwart Ross Barkley and Marouane Fellaini as West Brom earned their first point of the campaign.

But Foster could now miss his side's home Premier League clash against Swansea on 1 September as well as England's forthcoming World Cup qualifying double-header, a home game against Moldova on 6 September followed by a trip to Ukraine four days later.

Foster's injury meant 25-year-old Luke Daniels made his Baggies debut, nine years after joining the club.

And Daniels, who has had loan spells at Motherwell, Shrewsbury, Tranmere, Charlton, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers and Southend, kept a clean sheet, though he was fortunate to do so as both Fellaini and Coleman hit the woodwork late in the match.

"It was great for Luke and I had no worries about him as I see him every day in training. If you are patient you get your chance," added Clarke.

"It was a good point and a hard-earned one. Everton are a good team, but we showed that as well and it was about digging in and getting a good result."

West Brom, who lost 1-0 to Southampton on the opening day, have yet to score this season, but Clarke is not concerned.

He added: "The goals will come and we showed we are a team that creates chances."
