Sam Vokes signs Burnley contract extension to 2017

Burnley striker Sam Vokes has signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2017.

Vokes joined from Wolves in July 2012 for an undisclosed fee and his previous deal was due to expire in 2015.

The 24-year-old has scored 11 goals this season, one shy of his best return in a campaign while at Bournemouth.

"Sam is enjoying his football and developing as a player," manager Sean Dyche told the club's website. "We are delighted he has decided to stay."

Burnley are enjoying a fine season in the Championship, currently lying second, four points behind leaders Leicester.

Wales international Vokes - who has scored 10 goals in the league - has struck up an impressive partnership up front with Danny Ings, with the pair combining to net 25 Championship goals so far.

And the front man, who scored twice for the Clarets in nine appearances during a loan spell in the 2011-12 season, has been rewarded for his excellent form.

"We have all seen, so far, great signs of how his all-round game is improving," added Dyche.

"I spoke to Sam in the summer and told him we wanted him to be part of what we are looking to do here at Burnley and he has responded to that challenge.

"He is putting in consistent performances and scoring goals and becoming the player we think he can be, so we are delighted that he is going to continue that process with us as we move the club forward."
