Nathan Clarke: Leyton Orient captain signs new contract

Leyton Orient captain Nathan Clarke has signed a new two-year contract with the League One club.

The 30-year-old centre-back, whose previous deal was scheduled to expire this summer, will now remain at the Matchroom Stadium until summer 2016.

"I love the club and being captain is a great honour," he told the Leyton Orient website.

"I feel like the club is going in the right direction and it is something that I want to be a part of."

He added: "As a player you want that security and I'm glad it has been sorted out.

"I can put that to one side now, move my family down here and concentrate on the football and getting promotion which is our aim."

Clarke joined the O's in summer 2012 from Huddersfield and has made a total of 73 appearances for the east London side.

Orient manager Russell Slade described Clarke's new deal as "fantastic news" for the club.

"Nathan has been instrumental in everything we've achieved this season," Slade said.

"He's a model of consistency, leads by example and never shirks his responsibilities on and off the field."
