Stevenage sign Calvin Zola and Dean Wells

Stevenage have signed Braintree's Dean Wells for £25,000 on a one year-deal with a 12-month option and striker Calvin Zola after his Aberdeen release.

Zola, 29, had the final 12 months of his Dons contract cancelled this week.

He scored three times in 20 Scottish Premier League games last season.

Defender Wells, 29, had been part-time at Braintree, sharing football with a job as a school caretaker, and played 110 Conference Premier games for the Iron after joining in November 2011.

Boro chairman Phil Wallace told the club website:, external "Dean is starting his Football League career late in life, but he continually impressed our head of recruitment and manager Graham Westley during last season and he has the enthusiasm, desire and determination to win that we seek in our players."

Democratic Republic of Congo-born Zola was last in the Football League with Burton, where he scored 34 times in 96 games, and he has also featured for Crewe, Tranmere and Oldham.

The length of his contract has not been announced.

"I've known the manager for a while, I know what he's all about," he said.

"With the guidance of the manager I'm sure I can do very well."
