Colchester United have completed the signings of keeper Chris Lewington and defenders Sean Clohessy and Ben Gordon on free transfers.

Lewington, 25, and Gordon, 23, had completed their respective deals at Dagenham and Ross County, while Clohessy, 27, had his Kilmarnock contract ended by mutual consent.

All three have signed three-year deals with the League One side.

Clohessy played 166 games for Essex rivals Southend from 2010 to 2013.

Gordon came through the Leeds and Chelsea youth ranks and moved to Scotland last summer after a series of loan spells.

Lewington has made 143 Daggers appearances since his debut in August 2010 and will battle with Sam Walker for the Colchester number one shirt.

"I've tracked Sean for a long time, I remember him being in the youth team at Gillingham," boss Joe Dunne told BBC Essex.

"He's a tenacious full-back who seems to have added bits to his game as he got older.

"Ben has done loans to bigger clubs and it hasn't worked out. They're both the type of full-back I like.

"Chris has been very consistent at Dagenham. A player comes to a stage when they want to move and as soon as I knew it was a possibility I dived on it."

Dunne is also hopeful that defender Josh Thompson and midfielder David Wright will sign new contracts to stay at the club.
