Reda Johnson: Coventry City sign Sheffield Wednesday defender

Reda Johnson only featured once more for Wednesday last season after scoring twice in as many matches

Coventry City have completed five signings in one day by bringing in defender Reda Johnson following his release by Sheffield Wednesday.

The Sky Blues have offset the influx by the loss of prize asset Callum Wilson to Championship side Bournemouth.

But Cherries winger Mohamed Coulibaly and goalkeeper Ryan Allsop move the other way on loan until January.

And City have also signed free agent midfielders Jim O'Brien and Danny Swanson - both on two-year contracts.

Johnson, who was signed by then Wednesday boss Alan Irvine from Plymouth Argyle in January 2011, has agreed a one-year contract with the Sky Blues, with a negotiation clause for a further year.

The 26-year-old Marseille-born Benin international can play in the centre of defence or at full-back.

He first arrived in English football in the summer of 2009 when Paul Sturrock signed him from French club Amiens for an undisclosed fee.

Steven Pressley's Sky Blues had not previously made a single signing this summer before Friday's remarkable five-fold flurry of transfer activity.

But goalkeeper Joe Murphy (Huddersfield Town), defender Blair Adams (Notts County), midfielder Franck Moussa (Charlton Athletic), Mark Marshall (Port Vale) and now Wilson have all departed.
