Leicester City striker David Nugent has signed a new two-year contract with last season's Championship winners.

The 29-year-old was the Foxes' top scorer with 20 goals to help them return to the Premier League.

Nugent joined Leicester as a free agent in July 2011 after leaving Portsmouth.

"I'm delighted to have signed for two years and I'm really looking forward to testing myself with the rest of the squad in the best league in the world," he told the Leicester website., external

"I think we've got a great chance of doing well in the Premier League."

Having started his career at Bury, Nugent moved to Preston North End and later played in the top-flight for Portsmouth and during a loan spell at Burnley.

The once-capped England international's deal follows in the wake of several other Foxes' players agreeing new contracts ahead of the club's first Premier League campaign since 2001-02.

Captain Wes Morgan, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and midfielders Matty James and Danny Drinkwater have all extended their stays at the King Power Stadium over the summer, while manager Nigel Pearson signed a three-year deal in June.

Midfielder Marc Albrighton has joined Leicester after being released by Aston Villa.
