QPR have completed the signing of Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

McCarthy, 24, has found himself behind Adam Federici at the Madejski Stadium and will compete for a place with Rob Green and Brian Murphy.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp said: "He's a great young goalkeeper with a great future in front of him.

"I think he's got the potential to be a future England goalkeeper one day, so to have him here at QPR is fantastic."

McCarthy won three caps for the England Under-21 side and was called up to the full squad for friendlies against Brazil and the Republic of Ireland in 2013.

He has yet to make his debut for the full national side.
