Newcastle centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has joined Italian club Roma on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Yanga-Mbiwa becomes the second player with Premier League experience to join the Serie A runners-up this summer, after ex-Chelsea player Ashley Cole.

The 25-year-old French defender joined the Magpies in January 2013 from Montpellier.

He has made 46 appearances for Alan Pardew's side, but has not appeared for the club this season.

Roma have the option to make the move permanent next summer.
