Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow kept his sixth clean sheet of the season

Nottingham Forest remained top of the Championship table after holding on for a goalless draw at Millwall.

Forest created few chances at The Den, Michail Antonio drawing a save from David Forde with a cross-cum-shot and also heading over from five yards.

Lions striker Mathias Ranegie forced Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow into an instinctive stop with his legs shortly after Martyn Woolford had shot wide.

Mark Beevers headed down and past a post as Millwall pressed for a winner.

Forest, in action on the 10th anniversary of the death of former manager Brian Clough, stretch their unbeaten run this season to 10 matches in all competitions.

They scored five to beat Fulham in midweek and return to the top of the league, but they rarely troubled a Millwall side who earned their first point since beating Blackpool on 30 August.

The early stages were lively and open, with Forest winger Antonio sending a low shot just wide inside two minutes.

In a tight and scrappy first half, Millwall had claims for a penalty turned down after Jermaine Easter went down in the box under the challenge of Kelvin Wilson.

The only noteworthy moment of action came when Antonio forced Republic of Ireland international Forde to claw away his goalbound cross-shot from the left wing.

Millwall took the game to the league leaders after the break, with winger Woolford cutting inside and dragging a shot wide from the edge of the six-yard box.

Darlow then had to be at his best to deny on-loan striker Ranegie, keeping out the Swede's close-range effort from Shaun Williams' free-kick.

The home side were a danger from set-pieces, centre-back Beevers coming close to giving his side the lead from another centre from Williams, and Ricardo Fuller forcing Darlow into another save with a shot from outside the area.

Britt Assombalonga, the division's top scorer with eight goals this season, had just one real chance but could not get the required power on a late header.

Millwall boss Ian Holloway: "I was very pleased even though we have only got one point in a week. We have played better this week than we have in some of our other games.

"We made a couple of mistakes and when you do that and don't take a chance then this division isn't very nice."

Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce: "They generated a bit of momentum with the fans and we had to show a defensive display in a reasonably scrappy game.

"We didn't have the cutting edge going forward that we wanted and overall I have got to be happy with a point and a clean sheet on the road."
