Liam Daish: Nuneaton name ex-Birmingham defender as manager

Former Republic of Ireland defender Liam Daish has been appointed as the new manager of Conference side Nuneaton.

Daish previously managed Ebbsfleet between 2005-2013, winning the FA Trophy in 2008, and replaces Brian Reid, who was sacked in September.

"Nuneaton have always been a decent non-league team with a decent non-league reputation," said Daish, 45.

"The timing of the job coming in, as well as location, felt right for me."

Daish, who was selected from a list of more than 60 applicants for the position, will take charge of his first match at home to Dartford on Saturday.

"I have been very impressed by talking to the chairman and the chief executive," added Daish. "It feels like a good, honest club that wants to progress.

"I have a very good idea of the squad and the players and no doubt I will be very well briefed about all of them. It will not take me too long to get settled in, I'm sure."

The former Cambridge United, Birmingham City and Coventry City defender takes over a Nuneaton side currently 22nd in the Conference.

Chairman Lee Thorn added: "He is the perfect candidate, with an outstanding proven reputation, and is the perfect fit for Nuneaton Town."
