Huddersfield extended their unbeaten run to five Championship matches courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Jacob Butterfield gave them hope of victory by giving them an early lead with a powerful close-range shot.

But Brighton levelled before the break through a Lewis Dunk shot after Town had failed to fully clear a corner.

Albion, who are now nine league games without win, were reduced to 10 men in the 93rd minute when Kazenga LuaLua received a second yellow card.

However, despite dropping points at home, the Terriers can take some satisfaction with their impressive recent form under Chris Powell, which has seen them avoid defeat since losing 3-0 at Leeds on 20 September.

It is this that prompted Powell to name an unchanged line-up, for which he was rewarded in the 10th minute when a flowing move was ended by Butterfield firing in off the underside of the bar.

However, they could not press home their advantage and were pegged back seven minutes before the break when Dunk struck.

This sparked Town back into life and Albion keeper David Stockdale had to be alert to keep out a shot from Jack Robinson before the break and a volley from on-loan Wigan striker Grant Holt early in the second half.

In what was their only attack of the second half, Brighton looked to have snatched all three points with just minutes remaining when Sam Baldock slotted home from close range but the assistant's flag was raised for offside.

And the officials were again called upon again deep into injury time as referee Gary Sutton showed LuaLua a second yellow card to cap a frustrating evening for Sami Hyypia's side.

Huddersfield manager Chris Powell: "It was a hard fought game and a point that I think both teams probably deserved in the end.

"It keeps momentum going for us and keeps the confidence high. We're unbeaten, which is obviously very good for the group.

"The players have responded, there's a good spirit in the group and I'm doing my best to keep everyone involved.

"The crowd are getting behind us too and it's just what the club needed. I came in and the the whole place was a bit disaffected which is understandable. But we're a work in progress and we're moving forward now."
