Burton Albion have signed Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Scott Shearer on loan until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old comes in as competition for first-choice number one Jon McLaughlin, while Dean Lyness recovers from a broken leg and Remi Matthews has returned to parent club Norwich.

Shearer, who joined Crewe in July, has spent 15 seasons in English and Scottish league football.

He is available to face one of his former sides Shrewsbury on Saturday.

The Scot started his professional career with Albion Rovers before moving to England with Coventry City in 2003.

He has since gone on to feature for eight more clubs, playing three games for Crewe this season after joining from Rotherham United.
