Mansfield Town have signed defender Michael Raynes from League Two rivals Oxford United on a free transfer.

Raynes, 27, will remain with the Stags until the end of the season when the club has the option to extend his deal.

He has made 277 career league appearances for Stockport, Scunthorpe, Rotherham and Oxford, including five for the U's this season.

Bermuda international midfielder Reggie Lambe, 23, has also extended his Stags stay until the end of the season.

Manager Adam Murray, who has made six signings during the January transfer window, said of Raynes' arrival: "Michael is an experienced Football League defender and is organiser and a leader.

"He's a no-nonsense type defender who also has the ability to be comfortable in possession of the ball."
