George Saville and James Tavernier join Matt Smith in the loan ranks at Bristol City

Wolves midfielder George Saville and Wigan right-back James Tavernier have joined Bristol City on loan.

Saville, 21, arrives on a 93-day deal while Tavernier, 23, will stay with the League One promotion chasers until the end of the season.

Both will travel with the squad for Saturday's match against Scunthorpe.

Speaking about Saville, boss Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol: "He's left-footed, and a young boy who's driven and got a lot of energy."

Saville signed for Wolves from Chelsea in August for an undisclosed fee, after spending last season on loan at Brentford.

Tavernier left Leeds United's academy to join Newcastle in 2008 and made 11 appearances for the Premier League club.

He went on to have loan spells at Gateshead, Carlisle, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Shrewsbury and Rotherham before joining Wigan in the summer.

"We were looking at James last year," said Cotterill. "We're pleased to be able to bring him on board, especially after losing Todd Kane, who was able to play that wing-back role as well.

"He'll give us extra legs and quality during our run in."
