Ivan Ramis' contract at Wigan Athletic was set to expire in the summer

Ivan Ramis has mutually agreed to cancel his contract with Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic and has joined Spanish club Levante.

The defender, 30, joined Wigan from Mallorca in 2012 but was out for nearly a year with a serious knee injury.

He had featured 20 times this season.

"He's not playing at the moment and is out of contract in the summer and we felt that in both our interests, this was the best solution," Latics manager Malky Mackay told the club website., external

"He is a good professional and he goes with the warmest regards of everyone at Wigan."

Ramis, who has signed a six-month contract with the option of a further year at Levante, made a total of 57 appearances for Wigan, scoring five goals.

He becomes the eighth player to leave the DW Stadium in the January transfer window.
