Managerless Coventry City have signed Brentford striker Nick Proschwitz on loan for the rest of the season.

Despite Steven Pressley's sacking on Monday, the Sky Blues have pressed ahead with a deal for the 28-year-old German that had already been lined up.

"We're delighted to bring in a player we've been tracking at this club for a long time," said joint caretaker manager Neil MacFarlane.

Proschwitz was first brought to England by Steve Bruce at Hull City in 2012.

He spent two years with the Tigers, which included a spell of four goals in eight starts on loan at Barnsley, before signing for Brentford at the start of this season.

Coventry City under caretaker management

Coventry City are currently under the command of Dave Hockaday, 57, and Neil MacFarlane, 37, following the sacking of Steven Pressley on Monday.

The much-travelled Hockaday only joined the Sky Blues on 2 February as professional development coach until the end of the season.

MacFarlane has been at Coventry for the past two years since being appointed as number two by Pressley when he took charge in March 2013.

He made 20 appearances, but only three have been starts and he has fallen down the pecking order at Griffin Park, having netted only twice.

Proschwitz scored in the 6-6 League Cup first round draw at Dagenham & Redbridge, which the Bees won on penalties, then again in a 2-0 win at Rotherham, also back in August.

He has spent the majority of his career in his homeland, having played for the second teams at Wolfsburg, Hamburg and Hannover before two seasons in Swiss football.

He hit 23 goals in 29 league games with Swiss Challenge League side FC Vaduz, then a further eight in 31 league games for FC Thun, before moving back to Germany in the summer of 2011 to join SC Paderborn.

Proschwitz was a success there, scoring 17 goals in 33 league games to earn his move to Premier League side Hull for £2.6m.
