FA Cup: Barnet 0-1 Newport County
- Published
Newport County reached the FA Cup third round for the first time since the club was reformed in 1989, with a narrow win at fellow League Two strugglers Barnet.
The visitors took the lead in the second half when Scott Boden headed in Andrew Hughes' cross.
Barnet's Kevin Lisbie volleyed over from Hakeem Odofin's cross as the hosts tried to level, but the Exiles held on.
Victory saw Newport stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 games, but Barnet are winless in five.
Newport boss John Sheridan told BBC Radio Wales:
"I didn't realise it was that long (since) we were in the third round. It's good for everyone involved.
"It's good for the supporters and it's good for the players. It gives us that bit of excitement, that we're in the hat.
"I thought we were the better team today. When you're winning games, it builds a bit of confidence, but we're playing well. It should have been four or five nil, with the chances that we had."
