Wigan Athletic have signed goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe from Torquay, but will loan him back to the National League side until the end of the season.

Lavercombe, 19, who has featured 11 times for the Gulls this season, joins the Latics on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

"Dan has lots of potential. He's impressed us during the time he's been with us," manager Gary Caldwell said., external

"He'll go back to Torquay to play, but he's a real find for the future."

Lavercombe has established himself as first choice at Plainmoor this season; and although he will stay at the club until the summer, the loan arrangement leaves Torquay without a permanent goalkeeper on their books following the departure of Fabian Speiss last month.
